1,734 Chicago congregations in this directory have mapped transit stops within a quarter mile. The carless Sunday guide, sorted by line and neighborhood.
Chicago has 1,734 churches with at least one mapped transit stop within a quarter mile, which is 92.5 percent of the 1,875 Chicago congregations in the Churches List directory. The single best-connected church building in the directory's Chicago data is Christ Temple Missionary Baptist Church, with 60 mapped stops within a quarter mile, nearly all of them feeding the 95th/Dan Ryan Red Line station on the Far South Side. Soul Reviving Missionary Baptist Church sits in the same bus-terminal orbit with 59 stops.

The transit-reachable Chicago churches on the map
Riding to church in Chicago: what to check before Sunday
A high stop count is a strong signal but not a schedule. Three checks before relying on transit for a Sunday service in Chicago:
- Confirm Sunday frequency on the specific route. Many CTA bus routes that run every 10 minutes on weekdays drop to 30-minute headways on Sunday mornings, and a few do not run at all.
- Check which side of the station the church sits on. The churches clustered around 95th/Dan Ryan count dozens of stops because the station is a major bus terminal; the walk from a specific bay to a specific door can still be several blocks.
- Call ahead for service times. 1,734 transit-reachable listings is a wide field, and the directory's church pages carry phone numbers for most of them.
How the transit data was mapped
Stop locations come from OpenStreetMap, collected by the directory's nightly enrichment pass: every stop node within roughly 400 meters (a quarter mile) of a church building counts as a mapped stop. 1,734 of 1,875 Chicago listings have at least one as of June 11, 2026. A mapped stop does not guarantee Sunday service on that route; check the transit agency's schedule before traveling. Corrections to any listing go through the corrections page.
