Columbus has 461 churches with at least one mapped transit stop within a quarter mile, which is 68.8 percent of the 670 Columbus congregations in the Churches List directory. COTA's bus network is the only transit layer in the data; Columbus is the largest American city without rail transit, so every mapped stop here is a bus stop.

Baptist congregations lead the transit-reachable count at 100, followed by Non-Denominational churches at 47 and Church of Christ congregations at 37. The highest stop counts cluster downtown around the COTA Transit Terminal and the High Street spine: Columbus Saint John's Evangelical/Protestant, a United Church of Christ congregation near Mound and Third, counts 33 mapped stops, and Trinity Episcopal Church at Broad and Third counts 30.

Riding to church in Columbus: what to check before Sunday

Columbus transit planning is simpler than in rail cities, with one network and one schedule source. Three checks before a Sunday trip:

  • Check Sunday headways on the specific COTA line. High Street routes run frequently seven days a week, but crosstown routes that produce mapped stops in this data can drop to hourly service on Sunday.
  • Favor downtown and High Street churches for car-free visits. The stop counts above show where frequency lives; a church with three mapped stops on one suburban route is a different trip than one near the Transit Terminal.
  • Call about parking anyway. Many Columbus congregations sit in neighborhoods where the bus and the parking lot are both realistic, and service times decide which one wins.

How the transit data was mapped

Stop locations come from OpenStreetMap, collected by the directory's nightly enrichment pass: every stop node within roughly 400 meters (a quarter mile) of a church building counts as a mapped stop. 461 of 670 Columbus listings have at least one as of June 11, 2026. A mapped stop does not guarantee Sunday service on that route; check the transit agency's schedule before traveling. Corrections to any listing go through the corrections page.
