Pennsylvania holds 892 United Church of Christ congregations in the Churches List directory, 16.8 percent of the denomination's 5,315 national listings, the highest single-state share of any tradition-state pair in this series. The reason is ancestry: the UCC's 1957 merger absorbed the Evangelical and Reformed Church, heir of the German Reformed congregations that blanketed the Pennsylvania Dutch counties from the 1720s onward.

The city counts map the German settlement belt precisely: Reading leads with 46 congregations, followed by Allentown with 35, Philadelphia with 30, and York with 25. Those four cities trace the limestone arc of southeastern Pennsylvania where the Reformed and Lutheran settlers often shared union churches, one building with two congregations.
