Settlers from Rhode Island and Long Island seeking a home that would ensure freedom of worship organized Old First Church in 1688 as the Middletown Baptist Church. A number of other churches in NJ have come out of our congregation. At 325 years of age, Old First Church is the oldest continuous Baptist congregation in New Jersey. Old First Church now includes members and friends from a variety of Christian traditions. Out tenets are ‘soul liberty’, ‘freedom of conscience’, and ‘respect for diversity’. We are now dually aligned with the American Baptist Churches in the USA and the United Church of Christ. We are a ‘Welcoming and Affirming’ and ‘Open and Affirming’ church. The congregation and pastor of Old First Church welcome all who seek and love God and we invite you to join in the freedom and responsibility of an ecumenical fellowship. Our hope and purpose is to minister to individuals, families, and institutions in the community and in the world. Office Hours: Tuesday & Thursday 9am-12pm
