Liberty Cumberland Presbyterian Church
The church is the oldest standing church building in Gordon County. The congregation was served by “Circuit Riders” from the 1830s until 1853. On Oct.18,1853,it was formally organized with the installation of a Pastor and Session.The present building was erected in 1860,a “timberframe construction of mortise and tendon design, and held together with wooden pegs and cut nails.It is the first painted church in NW GA.- viz: “The Old White Church”, the only place (not just church) in U.S. that Union and Confederates worshipped together in same service during the War Between the States-April 1864; Union Field Hospital, May 1864;taken-over by roving Gypsies in 1925 for six weeks, but the Sheriff and sixteen armed men convinced them to leave. Totally renovated in 2001-02.Conservative,a “Who-so-ever will may come” church, all are welcome;Sunday School at 9:45 AM -Worship at 11 AM. Come casual if that’s all you have; God looks at the heart, and so do we. Directly across from the Fairgrounds off Rome Hwy.
