Urban Poet’s Program (UPP) at St. Matthew’s and St. Joseph’s Church, an outgrowth of our Spoken Word Cafe, received gift from the Skillman Foundation. SWC meets 3rd Sundays 5-7 pm for poetry, story telling, rap, and song. Greater Woodward Community Development Corporation. non-profit, was founded just 3 years ago by St. Matthew’s and St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church to establish an effective outreach and social service venue in the City. It serves the underserved on Detroit’s North End and has been awarded a $10,000 Compassion Capital Initiative Grant by New Detroit. The grant is being used to: (1) implement the organization’s Strategic Plan, (2) Develop a Programming Model, (3) Establish a Fund Development Procedure. GWCDC received an IRS 501 (c) 3 determination in August of 2009 and to date has received over $25,000 in grant awards. GWCDC has been the recipient of The Spirit of Detroit Award, and NSO’s Inspired Service Award in 2009.
